Kathy Kam – BMus
Piano
Piano has been a major part of Kathy’s life ever since she started having piano lessons from the age of 4. Throughout high school, she was always playing for award ceremonies and assemblies and started teaching piano right after she graduated. It was also then when she discovered her love of composing, whether it is a solo piano piece or a ten-minute string quartet.
Kathy is currently working towards a Certificate of Teaching (AMEB) and studying a Bachelor of Music (Music Pedagogy/Composition) and Bachelor of Science (Psychology) at the University of New South Wales. Her love for working with people especially children does not stop at music teaching and extends to understanding the human psyche.
Kathy has also received multiple awards such as the Cliff Goodchild Award for Music Composition and Academic Excellence in Music. She has attended multiple masterclasses such as a composition workshop by Elena Kats-Chernin and recently went to the Australasian Piano Pedagogy Conference in Brisbane to further her knowledge in teaching and to help further inspire her students to do the best they can, and to really fall in love with music.
Kathy has been teaching for a number of years, from young children to adults. Her vibrant personality and enthusiasm for teaching inspire her students to not only have fun and enjoy music but also to advance their understanding and skills. Her encouraging style of teaching also focuses on building up their confidence and personal needs for each individual student.
