Sierra Sharman – BMus (Current)
Violin
Sierra has been playing violin for 10 years and is currently studying a Bachelor of Music Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. She has always loved sharing her passion for music and began giving lessons in 2015. Since then, she has taught students ranging in age from 6-adult across beginner to advanced levels. She also has experience working with groups and ensembles and has tutored as a volunteer at the South Coast Music Camp.
Sierra aims to inspire and motivate her students, without creating a stressful atmosphere that revolves around extrinsic motivators such as marks and exams, instead encouraging students to have fun with their playing, both in practice and performance! Using this philosophy, she prepares her students for their musical
endeavours in a way that cultivates a love for music.
Having moved to Sydney in 2017 to pursue her violin studies with Professor Goetz Richter from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Sierra graduated from the Newtown High School of Performing Arts with Band 6’s in Music 2 and Music Extension. She was invited to tour with the Sydney Youth Orchestra in 2019 to Europe, working alongside members of the London Symphony Orchestra and Halle Orchestra to perform in world-renowned venues. In 2019 she also performed Dvorak’s Requiem with the Sydney Youth Orchestra in the Sydney Opera House, alongside members of the Sydney Symphony and Sydney Philharmonia Choir. In 2018, Sierra was Concertmaster of the Peter Seymour Orchestra (Sydney Youth Orchestras), including a tour of regional NSW.
